A Day in the Life at MotorGreen: What Happens Behind the Yard Gates

A Day in the Life at MotorGreen: What Happens Behind the Yard Gates

From the outside, MotorGreen looks like a busy, fast-moving operation, but step inside the yard, and you’ll discover there’s a precise, organised system behind every vehicle we handle. Every day brings hundreds of moving parts, roaring machinery, and a dedicated team working together to turn end-of-life vehicles into valuable green parts. Here’s what really happens behind the yard gates…

Morning Start: Vehicles In, Vehicles Out

The day begins with deliveries. Transporters and recovery trucks arrive with end-of-life vehicles (ELVs) ready for processing. Each car is booked into our system, photographed, and assigned a unique ID, allowing us to track its location precisely at every stage of the recycling process.

Meanwhile, our dispatch team prepares outgoing orders, including engines, gearboxes, panels, and more, which are ready to ship across the UK and overseas.

Depollution: Draining & Safety First

Once logged, new vehicles move into the depollution bay, where safety takes priority. Using our advanced depollution system, all hazardous fluids such as fuel, coolant, brake fluid and oils are drained and stored securely for recycling. Tyres, batteries and airbags are also removed using specialist tools to ensure environmental compliance.

Nothing is wasted, and everything is handled according to strict industry guidelines.

Dismantling: Skilled Hands, Quality Parts

Next, the cars head to the dismantling area, where our technicians get to work. Using two-post lifts, impact guns, hydraulic tools, and years of experience, they carefully remove quality components such as:

Each part is inspected, tested, cleaned, and labelled. Our barcode system tracks every item from the moment it leaves the vehicle to the moment it’s sold. This level of traceability gives our customers confidence that they are receiving the exact part they need.

Warehouse Organisation: Everything in Its Place

If you’ve ever wondered how we keep thousands of parts organised, the answer is structure. Inside the warehouse, every component is sorted, labelled, and shelved based on make, model, and part type.

Engines go onto heavy-duty racks, wheels go into dedicated bays, and electrical items go into separate sections. Our team uses handheld scanners to keep inventory real-time accurate. It keeps our eBay store and website stocked with up-to-date listings.

The Yard Machines: The Workhorses of MotorGreen

Here’s where the heavy machinery shines.

These machines keep the flow of materials constant, ensuring every vehicle is recycled efficiently.

Export Prep: Engines & Parts on the Move

A significant part of our day involves preparing export orders. Engines and parts are strapped, wrapped, crated, and container-loaded for customers worldwide. From diesel and petrol to hybrid engines, demand never slows.

End of Day: A Clean, Organised Yard

Before closing, the team ensures all bays are clear, machines are shut down, and stock is updated. It’s this discipline that keeps MotorGreen running at peak efficiency.
